Project Description
In India many children under the age of 5 die. This is partly due to poor hygiene, the caste system and lack of clean drinking water. People live close together in small huts and garbage is thrown on the street. The result is often that children become ill, have diarrhea and cannot see a doctor due to a lack of financial resources and there is no money for medication.
Key points

What does the day look like:
The day begins with a communal breakfast of rice, an egg, and milk. Afterwards, the children go to school and the youngest ones go to childcare. Around noon, the children receive a nutritious lunch. After school, they first do their homework, after which there is plenty of time to play together. In the evening, the children enjoy a traditional Indian curry dish. Each day concludes with a moment of prayer and Bible study.
Project information:
The project in India is part of Mercy Orphanages, with the main branch in Bhimavaram. The project was established in 2003 by Rajkumar Ganta, an evangelist with a deep-seated passion for the most vulnerable in Indian society.
One evening, Rajkumar was walking through the city and saw countless children wandering the streets, struggling to survive. Instead of looking away, he decided to take action. He founded a shelter project to provide these children with a safe place. In the meantime, hundreds of children have been accommodated within Mercy Orphanages. A large piece of land has been purchased on which a spacious children's home has been built, where a large portion of the children can stay. In addition, the children live in five different orphanages in three districts of India. Some children, particularly former street children, reside in smaller shelters in various villages.
The purpose of the orphanages is to provide children with a safe and loving home, where they can recover, heal, and flourish into strong, independent individuals, rooted in the love of Jesus.
Daily care provides the children with food, education and teaching materials, housing, and medical care. This gives them a hopeful future outlook and the chance to achieve their dreams.
