🤝 Standing together for India’s poorest

Project Held is dedicated to helping the poorest people in India—those who, because of the centuries-old caste system, still face exclusion, poverty, and injustice on a daily basis. Large groups of people are still viewed as “untouchable”, infected, or marginalized. They often live completely on the fringes of society and have little chance of finding work, receiving an education, or leading a dignified life.

Think of widows, people with leprosy, and families born into communities considered outcast. Even when someone is well-educated, the chances of getting a job are virtually nonexistent. If there are two candidates for the same position, the job is almost always given to someone from a higher caste.

Widows: invisible and cast out

Life is often particularly hard for widows. When their husband dies, they lose not only their partner but also their place in society. In some parts of India, they are ostracized by their husband's family and completely excluded. Finding work is almost impossible.
Project Held helps these women by providing them with sewing machines and sewing training, so they can make their own clothes, rugs, or tents and thus generate their own income. This gives them independence, hope, and, above all, dignity.

People with leprosy: living with disfigurement

Although leprosy is now effectively treatable in new patients, the current generation often still lives with the severe consequences of this disease. Many people are missing fingers, toes, hands, or feet. Some can barely walk and are completely dependent on others.
With assistive devices such as tricycles, walkers, and canes, we help them regain their mobility, independence, and self-esteem. A small assistive device makes a world of difference to them.

Clean drinking water: a life-saving difference

We also provide support to remote villages where people are forced to use contaminated water for drinking, washing, cooking, and sanitation. This leads to serious illnesses such as cholera and other intestinal infections. Many children under the age of five do not survive.
By digging wells, entire communities gain access to clean drinking water. This drastically reduces the incidence of disease and greatly improves their chances of survival.

Together, we make a difference

In all these situations, Project Held offers practical, targeted assistance. But we can’t do it alone. Your support is essential.
