Iris Ministries Sudan-Uganda

Due to the war in South Sudan, children have fled to Uganda where they have built a new life.

Project Description

The project in Uganda is part of Iris Ministries. This falls under the branch of Iris Ministries Mozambique, founded by Roland and Heidi Baker. Iris Ministries Uganda/South Sudan is currently located in Uganda but originally started in Sudan in 2006. Because war broke out in South Sudan and the situation was no longer safe for the children, all the children, along with their leaders, fled to Uganda where they now officially reside in Luwero.

“After the difficult times of war, these children have finally found their happiness and safety.”

What does a day look like

In Uganda, the day starts early. The children have breakfast together with bread and tea before they go to school. When they return, they help with daily tasks such as washing, preparing food, and doing homework. Of course, there is also time to relax and play games.

‘In the evenings, all the children gather for dinner and prayer. Dinner usually consists of rice, beans, and vegetables, supplemented with chicken or fish once a week. Special gatherings with worship, teaching, and prayer take place on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings.

Project information

Around 2015, the entire project fled to neighboring Uganda because staying in South Sudan was no longer safe. Carolyn Figlioli, responsible for the project, currently cares for over 100 children who are looked after by 23 people belonging to Iris Ministries Sudan/Uganda. The children's home is located in Luweero.

In Uganda, it is common for children who wish to continue their studies to live at a boarding school. For the older children, there is a separate 18+ house for boys and girls outside the center, as they are not allowed to live in the orphanage after turning 18 according to government regulations.

Thanks to sponsorship, the children receive daily food, education, school supplies, housing, and medical care. This provides them with a solid foundation and the opportunity to achieve their dreams and look forward to a hopeful future. The project is part of Iris Ministries. The children are helped by taking them in after they have had to leave their home country due to war and poverty. The project supports them in their personal development, safety, and education.
