Frequently Asked Questions

General

Does Project Held have a quality mark?

Does Project Held have a seal of approval: Yes, Project Held has ANBI status; Public Benefit Organization. Your donation is therefore tax-deductible. We are registered under Stichting Project Held with the following RSIN number: 862813256

We deliberately do not have a CBF quality mark. However, we do meet a number of important conditions for this quality mark. One of the reasons that we do not have this quality mark is the costs that are charged for this; this would significantly increase our overhead costs. We prefer to spend this money on the projects we support.

What more can I do for Project Held?

You can sign up as a volunteer or share more about Project Held within your community, church, or circle. We would greatly appreciate that.

You can contact us via [email protected]. We're happy to discuss the possibilities with you.

It is also possible to support Project Held with a one-time action. For example, there have been schools that organized a sponsored run or collection. It is important that prayers are also offered for the children in the homes and for the work that we do. If you wish to pray for them and for us, we would greatly appreciate it. Should you have any questions or ideas, you can contact us at [email protected] or by phone at 0341-424-785.

Sponsorship

How can I send a message to my sponsor child/children?

To be more involved with your sponsor child and the project, we offer the Nofam app. A unique app where you can be closer to your sponsor child through the digital world. How does it work?

By downloading the Nofam app and logging in with the details we provide (if you've forgotten your password, send an email to [email protected]), you'll enter an environment where your sponsored child/children are listed.

There is a message waiting for you there from your sponsored child's project.

You can then send a message, ask a question or take a photo via this app
and/or share a video of what you experienced. This message will be sent to the employee of the project where your sponsored child lives and together they will send you a message back.

To follow the progress of your sponsored child, it is necessary to download the Nofam app on your smartphone. This can be done via one of the following links that you will find below:

Download it on the App Store
Get it on Google Play
How long does sponsoring a child take?

The child can enter the sponsorship program until they turn 18. They will be supported through high school. Many children are then able to find a job and support themselves. Sponsorship ends when the child no longer actually lives within the project and can support themselves. Some children go on to study after high school.

You will be notified when your sponsorship of your sponsored child is coming to an end. We then ask you to continue the sponsorship for another child who does not yet have a sponsor.

It's also possible, of course, that the sponsorship ends prematurely because the child can return to family or parents. Naturally, we will inform you of this, and we will also ask if you would like to support one of the other children within our projects.

It also happens that sponsorship continues in connection with university studies or other reasons. As you will understand, the sponsorship contribution will not sufficiently help with the costs for university or education. It is assessed per student whether they can study and to what extent the sponsor would contribute to this.

How do I cancel the sponsorship?

When you wish to end your sponsorship, you can do so by sending an email to [email protected]. Please note the 2-month notice period. We would appreciate it if you could let us know the reason for termination, so we can investigate whether we need to adjust our services. You are of course free to provide this reason, and it will not affect the processing of the termination.

What happens to my sponsored child if I stop sponsoring?

The child can continue to live in the children's home, but there is less support for the children's home in total. Project Held will therefore immediately look for another sponsor for the child.

If the child falls under one of our projects, and the child lives in the village and therefore receives their support, the personal assistance to him/her will unfortunately stop until a new sponsor is found.

I want to send my sponsor child a gift. Is that possible?

No, it is not possible to send a gift for a specific child. The children generally live in children's villages and children's homes. Receiving gifts can lead to mutual comparisons and jealousy and this can harm the children.

It is possible to give all the children in an orphanage something extra. For example, you can donate school supplies or a festive meal if you want the children to share in your celebration. We do advise doing this through a donation so that the goods can be purchased locally. This stimulates the local economy and is cheaper. If you would like to know what specific possibilities there are, please contact us at [email protected].

Can I visit the orphanage of my sponsor child?

Yes, this is possible. Project Held visits the projects regularly, and it's possible to go along then. If you would like to visit your sponsored child, you can indicate this by emailing [email protected]. We can then discuss with you what is possible. If you have questions, please email them to [email protected].

My sponsor child has grown up. What now?

Your sponsored child has finished school, has a job, and is able to take care of themselves. Often, in collaboration with the management of the children's home, suitable accommodation outside the children's home is sought so that they can further develop as an adult woman/man.

In many cases, a child is over 18 years old when they still require sponsorship. This is because, in practice, children sometimes started school at a later age and had no prior education, which means they will also graduate later.

It's possible your sponsored child may start working at the children's home and continue to live and work there. In that case, the sponsorship will end because the child will then be able to support themselves.

Your sponsored child might also achieve good academic results and be admitted to university. In consultation with the orphanage's management, it will then be determined how long the studies will last and what is needed for them. Of course, you as a sponsor will be carefully informed about this.

When sponsorship stops unexpectedly, a new sponsor is not automatically sought for an ongoing study. The student program is insufficient to support all students within it. This could unfortunately mean that the child cannot continue their education.

What does my sponsored child get for the sponsorship money?

Your contribution of 31.00 euros initially provides for primary necessities such as shelter, food, education, and medication if needed. When additional funds are required, we try to raise them through project-specific campaigns.

What about the children who are not sponsored?

Not all children in every children's home are sponsored. Our goal is to find a sponsor for every child. Children without a sponsor do not receive less than children with a sponsor; finances are allocated per project to the children's home. In essence, some children may or may not receive updates from a sponsor, and there is less financial support for the children's home overall.

For the well-being of the orphanage, we therefore strive to have all children sponsored, so that all basic costs are covered. Some projects also receive support from other organizations, which contributes to the home's remaining finances.

How can I provide my changed account number or other details?

The best way is to send an email to [email protected] with your old and new details, mentioning your sponsor number and name.

In which language can I write to my sponsored child?

Via the Nofam app, you can simply write in your own language. The app automatically translates your message into English or the project's local language. Please note that translations may sometimes come across differently. You can also add photos or videos to show something from your life, which makes contact more personal.
