💧 Clean drinking water: the foundation for life and health

For us, clean drinking water is a given. We turn on the tap and trust that the water is safe to drink, cook with, and wash with. Unfortunately, in many parts of Kenya, this is anything but a given. There, access to clean water means the difference between health and illness, between hope and despair, between life and survival.

Water is life

Water is the basis of all life. Without clean water, it's impossible to stay healthy. Children and adults in vulnerable areas depend daily on water sources that are often contaminated with bacteria, parasites, and waste. This contaminated water causes serious diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and parasitic infections.

Young children are particularly at great risk from this. Diarrhea as a result of contaminated drinking water is one of the main causes of child mortality in Africa. Even when children survive the illness, repeated infection can lead to malnutrition, stunted growth, and lasting health problems.

The enormous impact of clean drinking water

Access to clean drinking water profoundly changes lives:

  • Less illness and death
Clean water drastically reduces the number of infections. This means fewer hospitalizations, lower medical costs, and most importantly: healthier children.
  • More school attendance
When children are not constantly sick, they can go to school. Education opens doors to a better future.
  • Better nutrition
Clean water makes it possible to prepare food safely, wash vegetables, and cook meals hygienically. This reduces foodborne illnesses and contributes to healthy growth.
  • Dignity and quality of life
Good hygiene means greater self-confidence, safety, and human dignity.

In 2023, a water system was installed within the Hope for Hope center, providing clean drinking water. Because the center is located in the middle of the village, children and residents from the surrounding area can come here to get water for drinking or to take home for food preparation.

The system is used intensively daily, and therefore regular maintenance is necessary for pipes, faucets, and the sink. These costs are necessary to ensure that water remains safe and available for everyone who depends on it.

Your contribution helps maintain this system and ensures that the center remains a place where people have access to clean and reliable drinking water. 💧

Your gift contributes to clean drinking water and the maintenance of the water system.

Help me!

With your support, we can maintain the existing water system and continue to provide clean drinking water.
