The project in Sudan supported by Project Held is part of Iris Ministries Sudan. This falls under the branch of Iris Ministries Mozambique, founded by Rolland and Heidi Baker. Iris Ministries Sudan started in 2006 in the south of the country. Michele Perry is the founder of this ministry in the largest country in Africa. The head office is located in Yei city. The children's village 'Yei Children's Village', where the sponsored children lived at that time, started in the same year and is also located in Yei.
However, they fled to neighboring Uganda around 2015 because it was no longer safe to stay in South Sudan. Carolyn Figlioli, in charge of the project, currently cares for more than 100 children who are cared for by 23 people belonging to Iris Ministries Sudan/Uganda. The children's home is located in Luweero.
The aim is to give the children a home and to participate in the family together. The gospel is central to this and the children have all built up a special relationship with the Lord. The day starts early in Uganda. Breakfast is served together with bread and tea, after which the children go to school. The older children stay in the children's village where they help with various chores. When the other children come back from school, they also help with the various chores. Many children also accompany hired workers in the children's village, such as farmers and painters, to practice the trade they are learning. Of course there is also time to relax, play games and do homework.
In the evening all the children come together to eat. Dinner usually consists of rice, beans and vegetables. Once a week the children get chicken and once a week they get fish. On Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings, the children gather for worship, teaching and prayer.
