What does a day look like:
In Uganda, the day starts early. The children have breakfast together with bread and tea before going to school. When they return, they help with daily tasks such as washing, preparing food and doing homework. Of course, there is also time to relax and play games.
‘In the evening, all children gather for dinner and prayer. Dinner usually consists of rice, beans and vegetables, supplemented by chicken or fish once a week. Special meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings for worship, teaching and prayer.
Project information:
Around 2015, the entire project fled to neighboring Uganda because staying in South Sudan was no longer safe. Carolyn Figlioli, in charge of the project, currently cares for more than 100 children cared for by 23 people belonging to Iris Ministries Sudan/Veganda. The children's home is located in Luweero.
In Uganda, it is common for children who want to continue their studies to stay internally at a boarding school. For older children, there is a separate 18+ home for boys and girls outside the center, as they are not allowed to live in the home after age 18 according to government rules.
Thanks to sponsorship, the children receive daily food, education and school materials, housing and medical care. This provides them with a solid foundation and the opportunity to realize their dreams and face a hopeful future. The project is part of Iris Ministries, and helps these children by hosting them after they have had to leave their homeland due to war and poverty, and supports them in their personal development, safety and education.
