Project Description
The project in Kosovo that your sponsored child or elderly person is part of was founded in 1999 by the De Brug foundation. The organization is active in the southwest of Kosovo, in the region around the city of Gjakova, an area that was particularly hard hit during the war.
The project focuses on supporting children and widows who have lost their father or husband due to the 1998-1999 conflict. Additionally, De Brug provides assistance to single mothers with children who can barely make ends meet. Through practical support, personal guidance, child sponsorship, and involvement, the project helps them find perspective and hope again. Thanks to this assistance, families are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives step by step and work towards a more stable, hopeful future.
Key points

Poverty hinders growth and development. That's why we support these children through education and offer help where it's needed most.
What does the day look like:
The children and elderly who are supported through Project Held in Kosovo live in extreme poverty. For many elderly individuals, this aid is the only form of support they receive. Monthly, they are given a food package, which allows them to meet their basic needs and get through the month. Additionally, the team helps with practical tasks in and around the home where needed. In winter, extra support is provided by assisting with the collection of firewood, so that homes can be heated and the cold remains bearable.
Project information:
The project in Kosovo that your sponsored child and the elderly are part of was established in 1999 by the De Brug foundation. This foundation is active in southwestern Kosovo, in the region around the city of Gjakova, an area that was heavily affected during the war.
The project provides support to children and widows who have lost their father or husband during the war, as well as to single women who can barely provide for themselves. In Kosovo, school costs are relatively high, making it difficult for many children to access education. Therefore, the project provides textbooks and covers other necessary school expenses so that children can go to school and have a perspective for a better future.
In addition, widows receive practical help in the form of food parcels, clothing, and medical support, so that they are not alone in their often difficult lives.
