Project Description

The project in Machava is part of Iris Ministries. This ministry was founded in 1980 by Roland and Heidi Baker. For years, they traveled the world as missionaries. Day in and day out, they witnessed the poverty and need in the world. In 1995, Roland and Heidi decided to permanently move to Mozambique and care for the many street children in Mozambique. Since then, they have opened several children's villages in this country. The Machava children's village was one of the first children's projects they established. This children's village is led by Jesse and Raquel Braga along with their daughter and husband and a team of locals. Currently, about 60 children live here.

They can be children again!

What does the day look like:

In Mozambique, the day starts early with a communal breakfast of bread and tea. Afterward, the children head to school. As soon as they return, they help with household chores like preparing meals and washing their clothes. Besides these tasks, there is plenty of time for relaxation, playing games, and doing homework. In the evening, all the children gather for dinner and prayer. Dinner usually consists of rice, beans, and vegetables, with chicken once a week and fish once a week. Special gatherings with worship, teaching, and prayer take place on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings.

Project information:

The children in the project are often brought to the center by social services because they live in deplorable conditions. Sometimes they find the children on the street and no one knows where the parents are, and the child no longer knows where they came from. Because the project borders a village, both the children from the project and the children from the village can attend the school located on the grounds of the children's center.
