A tricycle: freedom of movement, dignity, and life.
In India, people from the lowest castes, the physically disabled, and leprosy patients often receive little to no help. Due to poverty, exclusion, and the persistent caste system, many of them live in slums with hardly any amenities. For a large portion of these people, independent movement is virtually impossible due to severe physical limitations.
For them, a tricycle (tri-bike) literally means the difference between life and survival. With this adapted bicycle, they can travel to places where they can get food, receive medical care, and, however heartbreaking, beg to provide for their basic needs.
Many of these people have open wounds and severe deformities due to leprosy. Without regular medical care, these wounds can become life-threatening. The tricycle makes it possible to seek help in a timely manner, thus preventing infections and further complications.
A tri-bike gives back mobility, dignity, independence, and hope.
