This year, with Project Held, we are taking on a special challenge. We are walking part of the Camino and are dedicating our kilometers to young women in Kenya who have hardly any opportunities to build an income on their own.
Some of these young women were lured to Kenya with beautiful promises, only to find that the reality was very different. Others are alone, have children to support and do not earn enough to pay for food or school fees. When education, work and other opportunities are lacking, women can end up in a situation where they feel they have no other way out than to use their bodies to make money.
We want to look not only at the difficult situation in which these women find themselves, but especially at what is possible when someone does indeed get a chance.
From that thought came Scarlet Thread Hub.
Together with an experienced expert, a practical and professional program has been set up, in which we consciously keep the costs as low as possible. This allowed the first women to quickly start their training and work towards a completely different future perspective.
Via Scarlet Thread Hub Young women have the opportunity to undertake a three-month practical training. They learn skills in areas such as hair care, nail styling and personal care.
After three months, they receive their certificate and a bag filled with materials with which they can start working immediately.
Now the first women are about to complete their education. After that, they can start their own small business, earn an income on their own, and step by step escape the dark period in which they ended up.
That is exactly what we want to achieve with Scarlet Thread Hub: not provide temporary help that is dependent, but give women the knowledge, skills and opportunities to stand on their own feet.
The first results give us a lot of hope. That is why we want to continue and expand this program so that women can have this opportunity again and again.
More than just an education
But a new future does not start just with learning a subject.
Many of these young women bring experiences with them that you simply cannot leave behind. Therefore, there is space for personal and spiritual support every week during the course.
A safe place where they can share their story, talk about what they have experienced and gradually process things. Where they are listened to and encouraged to look again at themselves and their future.
This is how the Scarlet Thread Hub works not only for financial independence, but also for recovery, trust and new hope.
And that’s where our Camino sponsor run comes into play.
We ask each participant to sponsor the kilometers they will cover. Because with With €150 we can offer one young woman a three-month training, including guidance, a certificate and a bag of materials with which she can start her own business.
Not yet €150.
For us, that might be an amount that we can bring together with friends, family, colleagues, and other sponsors.
For her, it could be the beginning of independence.
And imagine what would happen if together we could give one, ten, twenty or even more women this opportunity.
That's why every participant counts. Every sponsor. Every kilometer. And every euro.

Do you want to join me?
During the Camino we take a lot of steps. But this time we are taking them with a special goal. For a young woman who wants to get her children to school. For a woman who wants to work but has never had the chance to learn a trade, for a woman who thought she had no other choice.
Each step gives a young woman in Kenya a new opportunity.
Join us, support us, and help a woman not only dream of a different future, but to actually have the means to build that future herself.
