Liberation Day

May 5, 2021

On May 5 we celebrate our freedom! Today is a double celebration for the residents of the nursing home in Grootebroek. For the first time since mid-December, residents are allowed to move outside their apartments again. The shop is open again and it is possible to speak to each other again, of course taking into account the corona measures. The “terrace” within the center has also been opened again, which brought much joy to the residents. Speaking and seeing each other again is what they have missed so much.

This day couldn't go wrong for the residents! It was also possible to eat together at lunchtime. This happened in shifts so that there were not too many residents in the common area at the same time.

To top it off, we from Held@Home brought a delicious orange tomcat past the doors to reflect on this together with the residents. Freedom was central and thus had a double meaning.

Let's not forget the elderly in this time, visit them every now and then or give them a call, they need it so much!

The gentleman from the photo immediately started talking about his time in the war. “I hope you never have to experience that,” he said! He was 12 years old, but can still remember a lot about it. Scarred for life by a few years of war.

Dear people, let us honor these people and let us listen to their stories and sorrow. Be a shoulder to cry on or an ear to hear. It makes so much difference!
