Sometimes sadness and joy are close together. Grief because you lost someone. Joy and gratitude when you can help so many children build their futures, as they would otherwise have no chance. We often don't understand everything, but we should never doubt one thing: GOD IS GOOD! ALL THE TIME!

Our beloved ambassador passed away
It is with great sadness that we announce that our ambassador, friend, hero, and example, Paulina Zoetebier, passed away on June 2nd. Most people know her as a great worship leader, which she certainly is. But she also has a beautiful heart for THE ONE. During the trips with Project Held, you saw her loving heart for the children, the widows, and the poor. We will never forget you, dear Paulina! An example for many. Heaven is certainly a much greater treasure richer! See below the song that Paulina has written and sung with love and passion for Project Held!

Update held project foundation
As we indicated in our previous newsletter, we are in the process of establishing Project Held as our own foundation. In recent weeks, for example, we have been busy drafting statutes and a policy plan. These have now been submitted to the notary and approved, which we are very happy about! As things stand, the foundation will be officially established at the beginning of July. We are looking forward to growing and rescuing even more children from poverty, giving them a chance at a bright future!

Emergency Call from Kenya
Safina is a 13-year-old girl and one of the best players on the soccer team of the Hope4Hope children's home in Kenya. Three weeks ago, Safina became very ill and had to be urgently examined in the hospital. Unfortunately, there was no money for this and Project Held was approached to pay for these studies. We transferred the money that same day. It turned out that she had a congenital abnormality in the abdomen that needed urgent surgery. She had a number of cysts in the abdomen that caused severe abdominal pain and prevented menstruation. Thanks to emergency surgery, she is now much better. Safina comes from a very poor family, which is why we decided to include her in our sponsorship program. So she is looking for a sponsor!

Food distribution in India
In India, Pastor Abraham Kuchipudi and his team have been busy distributing rice and fresh vegetables to impoverished widows. These widows often live on the streets because their husbands have passed away, leading to a loss of income. Our contact person, Pastor Abraham, is eager to help as many people as possible by distributing food. Last month, Project Held received a generous donation that allowed hundreds of widows to be assisted. We are extremely grateful for this support.

Online contact with incarcerated mothers

The girls at the children's home in Thailand are there because their mother, often years ago, had to go to prison for a drug possession crime. Poor mothers are often promised money to smuggle drugs. If caught, it's common in Thailand for the children to also go to prison, often for many years. The children are rescued from this hardship and cared for at Baan Zion, a children's home in Thailand run by the Dutch couple Jan and Ellen Smit. Due to the entire situation surrounding Covid-19, the girls were unable to visit their mother in prison. Last month, for the first time in a long time, it became possible for the girls to see their mother via an online chat. Of course, it's not the same as a face-to-face meeting, but they were very happy about it and are very grateful.

Lockdown in Uganda
While things are moving in the right direction here in the Netherlands and more and more is possible, a lockdown has been announced in Uganda in the vicinity of Carolyn's children's village (Iris Ministries). The children will not be going to school for 42 days and are not allowed to leave the premises. This presents a significant challenge with so many children in a relatively small space. Carolyn and her team are doing everything they can to assist the children with their schoolwork and organize daily sports activities for them. The atmosphere is very positive, and the children and their caretakers are enjoying the organized sports and games events taking place on site.

Held@Home
Just a few more weeks of hard work, and then the summer holidays will begin at the school where Held@Home is helping. A number of children have made great strides, and it's wonderful to see and hear how well they're mastering the Dutch language. For others, speaking Dutch and writing the words is still a big barrier. ...Read more
