As you know, Project Held has become an independent foundation from 1 July. In addition, we have our own ANBI status and a new account number. We are grateful for what we have been able to achieve in a short time.
What was still missing was a private collection contract to be able to collect the monthly sponsorship contribution. Recently, we have been able to collect from our old collection contract from the municipality with which we were affiliated.
Last week we received the great news from ING that they are offering us a collection contract. We have been able to demonstrate sufficiently that we have existed independently and responsibly for many years and thus support hundreds of children worldwide. What you will notice as a sponsor is that your statement will now include Project Held Foundation.
For us as Project Held a final hurdle that has been taken to be a completely independent foundation and offers more perspective for the future!

Help for people with disabilities in India
Due to a lack of hygiene, knowledge and the appalling conditions in which some people live in India, degrading diseases of limbs can arise. These limit the daily life of these people to such an extent that they are no longer able to function in daily life.
Ultimately, it brings these people to a total dependence on other people. The only way to survive is to beg and roam the streets for their food. All this causes them to get wounds and actually only sink further into the misery they are in.
From Project Held we want to help these people with what is within our ability. That is why we have made it possible on our webshop to give a special bicycle as a gift to make life more bearable for these people.
We are grateful to see that people have already stood on the breach and have given these people a bicycle as a gift. This really makes a world of difference for these people because they no longer have to crawl on the ground to drag themselves but can use their bicycle as a means of transport and storage.

If you really want to make a difference in the life for people with a disability due to Leprosy or as they call it elephant disease go to the webshop and give a tricycle as a gift.
Now that the biggest steps have been taken and completed in converting the foundation to independence, we are focusing more on the future. In recent weeks, project Held has been busy behind the scenes making and developing new plans for the coming year.

We use a vision board to visualize our vision for the coming year and everything has been accelerating since then! We can't wait to work out the plans and see the fruits of it.

What do you like best about Christmas?
The 10-year-old Tumelo Mohaka from South Africa starts to laugh shyly and you can see him thinking back to last Christmas. Then he begins to say that he thinks it is the most wonderful time of the year.
That he is so happy because he then gets a present and that they have a very nice meal together. Of course the beautiful Christmas carols they will sing and the stories about baby Jesus that are then told. Tumelo can hardly wait for it to come again!

Letters to your sponsor child
It really makes a big difference in a child's life when they have a sponsor. One of the differences is that the child can go to school. If the child is given the opportunity to go to school, he has much more prospects for the future. It's easier to find a job and take care of themselves. A great opportunity to break free from poverty.
In many of our projects the children in a children's center live together with other children. This is because the parents are unable to take care of the children, to provide the children with a safe environment, or because one or both parents have lost their way.
The circumstances in which a child is born often determine the future. A sponsor has a positive influence on the children of our projects. That is why we and our projects are so incredibly grateful to our sponsors! One by one we will lift these children out of poverty.
Something that also means a lot to the child is receiving a letter or card from the sponsor. The sponsor then gets a face, a character and the children feel loved and special. Since these children are often rejected or rejected, this also helps in restoring their identity in who they are.
But what do you write to your sponsored child? is a question we often receive. “What can I talk about in my letter without hurting or hurting the child.”
Below we have listed a few examples for you. If the child asks you something, respond positively and encouragingly, that is what these children need. Safety, encouragement and love.

We also know that one child is not the other child. We see whole texts and beautiful drawings of some children. The other child has a little more trouble expressing themselves or writing something down and may find that they can't draw very well, so they prefer not to. This is nothing personal to you! We know from experience that the children are very happy with their sponsor. They often cannot stop talking when they have received a letter and enthusiastically share it with the other children.
We would therefore like to ask you to keep writing or to send a photo or card. If your sponsor number and the child's reference number and name are on it, we can process it in our system and it will go to the correct project. If you want to do something special, we ask you to do this for all children. So that no children are favored or spoiled extra. Online store
At the moment our webshop has been around for about 4 months. We are grateful to be able to offer this for several reasons.
In the webshop it is possible to purchase something for yourself, for someone else or for a project. Take our cards in the webshop now. We have cards with Christian proclamations and texts, as well as cards to encourage someone or with a nice text.
For example, you can use the cards to make a package for Easter with Easter eggs, let them know that you are thinking of someone. But also, for example, with a nice flower vase and card as a sweet gift. In short, everything is possible.

Exam in Kenya
It is time for the children in Kenya to take their exams. An important point for these teenagers because it determines whether they can go to the next class/level, stay in school or do a year over.
Since last year the teenagers hardly went to school because of Covid-19, this is an exciting period. Of course they had lessons at the center and they continued to learn, but whether that is enough.. That is different than if they had stayed at school of course!
Please pray that the children will pass their exams and that what they have learned will surface at the right time so that they can continue to build for their future!
Christmas at our projects
At Project Held's projects, Christmas is always THE party of the year! Besides the fact that we celebrate the birth of Jesus and this is very central to the projects, it is also the time of the year that all children are back at the center for a while.

In many African countries it is customary, when you have completed the normal school period, you go to a boarding school. This often means outside the center for a longer period of time.
So if you're all back at the center around Christmas, see each other again, get presents and enjoy good food, that's THE time of the year that is really enjoyed!
Also in the other projects, it is a wonderful time to be together. Celebrating the birth of Jesus and often food is distributed nearby to show the people in the area and experience that Jesus brings Hope in every situation!

In recent weeks we have been working hard on a completely new website for Project Held. We are extremely proud of the end result and we cordially invite you to admire the new website! Held@Home Within Project Held we have started a new project, namely Held@Home. The goal of Held@Home is to reach out to people who are less fortunate, feel lonely or need a visit. Everyone knows someone close to them who has been affected by Covid-19, in one way or another.
At the moment Held@Home has appointments at a nursing home to bring oliebollen and help decorate the Christmas trees. Small gesture, great joy! In addition, more activities will be added in the near future.
